El Espectaculo de la Cocina

In this project we were tasked with choosing a Spanish origin food. Then we wrote out the steps to make it and translated it into Spanish. After that we made a video using just Spanish which you can see below. I was partnered with Angela and we made arroz con leche, Which translates to rice with milk.

El Proyecto de la Biographia:

Below is my memorized speech of the biography of Penelope Cruz. Above is my art piece description.
Below is my art piece I made with my speech and my art speech.

Project Description: In this project we were able to dig deep into learning about someone who grew up in a Spanish country. I did Penelope Cruz and learned all about how she grew up in Spain and appeared in 65 movies over the years!!! I learned a lot in this project including understanding preterito and imperfect. I am close to almost memorizing the preterito conjugations and I have learned the irregular verbs better. Also I was able to practice speaking a lot in this because we had to memorize a speech which you can see above. It was also interesting learning about someone from a Spanish background instead of English.

El Dia de los Muertos

  • Describe the project in your own words. In this project we learned about Mexican culture and day of the dead. In this we read a book called la tumba and learned vocabulary, and watched videos. To show this in a project we did a calavera which was about someone who is dead. We made two of these and my two were about a fisherman and Michael Jackson. Along with these we were tasked with creating a calavera about a relative or someone dear to us who has died. I chose my grandpa and wrote about him.

  • Describe your process of refinement (you may include pix of drafts). I refined my work by talking with my Spanish teachers (Susy and Sarah) a lot. My first draft of my fisherman calavera was kind of short so it didn't need a lot of refinement, however when I wrote my Michael J. calavera I used terminology I didn't know before like bleach and plastic surgery.
  • Finally, describe how your understanding of Mexican culture has grown. I have learned about day of the dead in depth which I haven't been able to do. I learned how important it is to them. Also the biggest takeaway of understanding Mexican culture was that the people who celebrate it aren't sad about there loved ones. Its a time to be happy and remember who they were and what the liked.

El raro que soy

Picture
In this project we were told to write a letter in Spanish describing ourselves and our families. When we finished this letter and went through many refining processes we did an art piece to incorporate our story. For mine I did a weight because I like working out and I value that I can.
A skill I learned over the course of this project was diving deeper into writing complete sentences in Spanish. We were given questions in English and then we wrote them in Spanish.
I learned how to describe people the correct way through this project. Before this I could say an adjective to describe a person but I couldn't say it in a full sentence and couldn't conjugate it correctly. After this project I can describe people 100 times better then I used to be.
My art is beautiful work because I went through a big refinement process. Two days before the project was due I scrapped my whole picture and re did it because I did not think that it was up to par with what it should be. The picture to the left is my refined work that I did on my free time, and that I think is beautiful work.
If I could redo this project I would have worked harder the first time so I wouldn't have had to refine my work. It would have been much quicker to do this and think through my steps when making my art peice. In my old piece I colored on it in sharpie and it made it look really bad. When I refined it it looked much better and it is a piece I am proud to show off.
