Tragedy Project Reflection:
In the project we learned about tragedies and how they can effect people or a society. We read two old tragedies to introduce it. Medea and Oedipus Rex. Once we had an understanding we started our big project. This consisted of writing our own tragedy on a modern issue. Me and my partner, David wrote a play together about Prescription drug addiction. Then for a visual piece we did a graphic novel.
Reflection:
For the Tragedy Project I am most proud of the final product that was made; a graphic novel. To me David and I did a great job on it. The main thing that was hardest to persevere through was arranging the photos on the Google Doc. The way you make the photos for the graphic novel was by putting a picture in a google drawing, adding a text box shape and then putting text in. We had about 50 of these to make. Then the hard part comes into play. To make it professional the goal was to line up the edges of each of them and and make them look like a cartoon. Google Docs is definitely not ideal for this. It took me and david about three hours to get them all arranged correctly and lined up right. One thing that would have been great would have been to use more of a photo editing software/website or templates on Google Docs. This is why I am proud of my project!
Advice I would give to people next year is find a template or website to use for graphic novels. Arranging the photos was definitely a huge pain and time consumer. My partner and I spent and large amount of time on it. I know it wouldn't seem like it would be that long to do it but it does. We worked on it for about an hour or two on sunday and then it took the whole day on monday in Sara's class to get it done. I HIGHLY recommend using a template or something else then Google Docs. Even if you use Google Docs to make them. Also, when you take photos with your phone or camera keep them on one setting (portrait or landscape). When you put them all together it makes it really hard to embed a landscape picture with pictures that are portrait style. This is my advice for if you are going to make graphic novel.
In my opinion working in partners helped a lot. When we had this assignment over the weekend and it had to be done by the end of monday truthfully I was kinda stressed. So David and I picked times to work on it on sunday to prepare us for monday. Without a partner I would not have been able to do this period. When you know you have a lot to do it can be extremely overwhelming to start or get progress done. It is very reassuring to have a partner on there with you and you can see progress happening twice as fast. For example my teacher Sara likes to work at a students desk because she feels to clutterd and overwhelmed at hers sometimes. She sees things that need to be grades and just needs to be in a neat space. The challenging essence to this was finding time slots to work, that we could both do. Other than this I find partners really helpful!
The most challenging part to this was getting the photos arranged and using all photos that only you have take or edited to where its your work. As I said before arranging photos in Google Docs was extremely inefficient and hard. If you can find a program or website to arrange your photos and are able to save it all as a pdf. this would be the ideal thing to make your graphic novel in. But David and I persevered through this by working and working until it was done and we were proud of it. Another this is using your own pictures. It was a tricky for the chorus and opening pictures. But ways to avoid this is using a group picture of people or a lego crew.
